I do not want any other antivirus or antivirus advice.
Just the link to the free download of norton.
thanks..I would prefer one without the google pack if possible
Avast! is a very good antivires and should keep you going untill you call your son and i agree with you the first poster was an ******
they are all free trials untill you enter the key.
here you go :
?
Might not be torrents. He could've just cracked the program with a KeyGen.
I don't think Norton offers a free version of their AV anymore. All you may download are the Free 15 days & 30 days trials. here are some safe sites to download from:
1.
2.
3.
Pls read carefully the description & terms of use before you download

Hi,
I know exactly how you feel about people always making assumptions on here, and it grates in my nerves as well!
But anyway,
I am currently using avast! which is free and i got it from
any download you get from this particular website will be legitimate.
Here is a list of all the Norton packages, so you can select which one you want (these are from the same site):
I hope I helped you!
: )
you would have to uninstall Nortons in order to use any other free antivirus ...
I suggest using Avast ... - it's free, but does require you to register free after 30 /60 days to continue the free version, and then once a year only. - This could help you out untill your son can sort out the Nortons version that you have paid for ...
Sorry I just sawfree computer antivirus downloads norton antivirus your question, and I think I can explain what happen. You had Norton Security Scan on your computer. It comes free with several programs. Google pack, Adobe, Kodak picture software and a couple of others. It's not a full Norton program and lacks some key security areas. But it's real purpose is to get someone to buy a full version of Norton. So I think what happen is, when the program popped up it gave an option to try the full version. So it only took one click. That's how you got the free trial. It would uninstall security scan, since it would not be needed. You can uninstall norton in the add and remove programs. You can also get the Norton removal tool from Norton to make sure all of it is removed. I never recommend Norton Security Scan, it lacks protection I think is needed. It has almost no anti-spyware detection. You are better off getting the paid version of Norton. Or going to download.com and get Avira or Avast. They are both free and offer good protection.
There are more choices past this actual page, at the bottom you have the page selection for that specific topic of general computer safety.
These are the top Free choices of over all PC protection from Cnet, ask your son, its a very trusted site.
To the left you can choose the specific area you want.
Here's a good report (Feb 2009) on many of the top AV (anti-virus) products.
You need both Anti-Virus and Anti-Spy/Malware solutions. Not all products cover all of these areas so you need to pick and choose to get COMPLETE coverage. Most of the FREE products need the PAID upgrade to get the more complete coverage features, both anti-virus and anti-malware features.
HIGHEST RATED BASED ON INDEPENDENT TESTING: Kaspersky, Nod32, Norton, McAfee
RATED ABOVE AVERAGE: Avira, Avast, BitDefender, F-Secure, eScan
RATED AVERAGE: AVG, Sophos, OneCare
NOTE: Those products that reported higher “false positives” received a more negative weighting in the final results even though they may have detected a high-percentage of malware, etc…
As to the FREE products, Avira's free computer antivirus downloads norton antivirusAntivir has a detection rate of over 99%, includes "root-kit" protection, and uses less system resources. Avast detection rate is around 97.8% and includes "root-kit" protection. Avast Anti-Virus is good if people suggest that, Avira is just slightly better.
Many people praise AVG, but AVG’s detection rate is less than 85% for Script Malware and General Malware, and does NOT include "root-kit" protection in the FREE version…plus, slower scan speeds and a higher number of "false positives".
A good FREE mix could be Avira and Malwarebytes, with McAfee Site Advisor (FREE) installed as well.
Or, a good BUY/FREE mix could be Kaspersky and AdAware (or Malwarebytes), with McAfee Site Advisor.
Avira:
Avast:
Kaspersky:
Nod32:
For your spy/malware solution:
Free - Malwarebytes - Good at removing malware, and acting as a back-up program and scanner.:
Free - Ad-Aware - Anti-spyware program that, unlike other free anti-spyware packages, has a live-protection module:
Also, after everything is fixed, download (FREE) and install McAfee Site Advisor. Site Advisor updates you on approved sites (as you surf and google) that have been previously verified: McAfee Site Advisor:
Finally, I recommend Secunia PSI (free). Secunia actively monitors all of your software and its latest patches to make sure you are up-to-date with the latest security patches on your computer (Firefox, Adobe, Flash, etc…):
I am going to guess and say your son is about 12-18 years old and he likes to be on the computer a lot?
Well i m going to tell you getting Norton Antivirus free is illegal but i am going to answer your question now.
Your son used something called torrents, yes with torrents you can get many things for free. If you would like to get it for free again then go with bittorrent.com and thepiratebay.org. But just be careful not get a virus first because torrents have a lot of virus's these days
