i am currently running the laptop using ubuntu, a free software program that will at least get me online. unfortunatly i cannot do anything else. i need to find a free windows download(not an upgrade, i dont have anything TO upgrade ) all i can find online requires windows already installed. can anyone help?

Thats not ganna happen, if ur talkin about a free version of the OS. And if u do that. u wouldnt be able to get updates
the only way you can get windows back is to buy the package again. Here is a website to show you the cheapest of Vista packages.
If this is a newer computer there was more then likely a "Restore" partition on your hard drive that was probably called "D"free windows downloads;. If you destroyed this partition before you made a copy of it, you have lost all of your Restore data. You can probably go to the computer manufacturer's web site and download this data, or you may be able to purchase it on a CD. But in either case there is going to be some dollars involved.
If you just purchase a new operating system, you will then need to download all of the drivers for your system. They too are available from the manufacturer's site.
